To be done:
IN PAIRS
DURATION:
30-60 min
OBJECTIVES:
To introduce the topic of the workshop using non formal methods
METHODOLOGY:
Every proposed activity (simulations, games, knowing each other games, sharing in small groups…) mainly aims at building an experience that can become a suggestion , a metaphorical bridge towards new activities and future experiences, keeping on growing and exploring. The active methodology refers to the development of the human being, as a process without a specific age span, but as continue evolution, based on lifelong learning.
MATERIALS AND RESOURCES NEEDED:
paper, pens, clock
STEP BY STEP PROCESS:
1. Participants take 3 slips of paper. On each paper they write a name of a person (historical or present) linked with the theme introduced or something that they perceive as typical of the topic you would like to develop. All things written down should be known by most people
2. All papers are put in a hat.
3. Participants are divided in pairs and sit in a circle whereby the members of the pair sit opposite of each other.
4. The game has 3 rounds
5. FIRST ROUND: The hat starts with one person. This person has one minute to take a paper and explain to his partner what is on the paper without saying the word. If his partner finds the correct answer the first person of the pair can take a new paper. S/he can continue until the minute is over. Then the person on the left has the chance. We continue until there are no more papers. In the end of the round the points are counted (1 point per guessed answer)
6. SECOND ROUND: same as round 1 but you cannot speak only mimic the issues. The points of this round are added to the first round
7. THIRD ROUND: same as round 1 but you can use only 1 word to describe it. The points of this round are counted to the other rounds
After the exercise the facilitator could make a small debriefing to start the discussion in plenary:
- Why did you pick the following issues related to this topic?
OUTCOMES:
The chaperons introduce the topic they would like to develop and start the discussion within the group.
EVALUATION:
No evaluation is foreseen for this exercise
NOTES FOR FURTHER USE:
The tool is inspired by the one published to the SALTO Toolbox by Sven Retor
